Why is it so hard to keep things simple?
To be honest, there’s a huge amount of ‘content rubbish’ floating around on the Web in online gambling sites. How often do readers read the rules for playing a specific game and end up getting more confused? There’s a good reason for that and it’s called Being Lazy. Gambling sites don’t want to explain anything, they just want players to come and play for cash. So these sites grab content from wherever they can – and never mind the quality or reader usefulness.

Fortunately there are a few online casino guides around, like Gamblux, www.gamblux.com, which have a ‘people-minded’ approach. These are the sites that provide a wide range of information - casino reviews, playing tips and rules, articles, news and objective guidance to players. They invest in quality content and the difference is obvious from the start.

However it’s not enough just to use quality content. The volume of text is another important factor. Every web site that assists the online gambler (to understand the game better and have better gaming odds) must value the gambler’s time. Here is another barrier to overcome. To write in a short and effective way is harder than to write in a long-winded copy. Unfortunately very few web sites dealing with online casinos have good, short copy.

Let’s assume that you want to know what ‘bad beat’ means in a poker game:

Bad Beat: A bad beat is a loss in which the losing player had the better odds on the winning player earlier in the hand. In general, the term is used when all the chips go in the pot when the losing player had odds. To take a bad beat means to be on the losing end of a bad beat; to lay a bad beat means to be on the winning end of a bad beat. (77)

The above entry was found in one of the first results when you type in ‘bad beat poker’. This glossary explanation uses 77 words – but at the end you still don’t understand what the term means! How can it be improved? The Gamblux version http://www.gamblux.com/gameGlossary10.asp. is:

Bad Beat: Losing a poker pot when holding a strong hand you were sure to win.

This gives you 16 words instead of 77 – and you understand! There’s no law saying that web sites about online casinos and online gambling have to be complicated. It’s just a question of understanding how people should get their information.
